Our Story
Born from Frustration. Built from Expertise.
Solar Vortex Anchor was founded in Tokyo in 2019 by Marcus Chen — then a management consultant flying 180 days per year — and a small group of colleagues who shared a common frustration: the travel industry was not designed for people like them.
Every city break service they encountered was built around leisure travellers with flexible schedules, unlimited time, and a tolerance for uncertainty that the working executive simply cannot afford. The bookings were generic, the itineraries were bloated, the restaurant recommendations came from a database rather than from lived experience, and the hotels were chosen by star rating rather than by proximity to the places that actually mattered.
Marcus and his co-founders — each a veteran of 200+ annual flight segments — decided to build the service they had always needed. Beginning with just six cities (Tokyo, London, Paris, New York, Singapore, and Berlin) and a client base drawn entirely from personal professional networks, Solar Vortex Anchor launched in March 2019.
By the end of 2020, despite the obvious challenges of that year, the company had expanded its team, refined its methodology, and developed a reputation among Tokyo's international business community for producing city break itineraries of extraordinary precision and quality. Today, Solar Vortex Anchor serves over 12,000 clients across 48 cities on six continents, with a rebooking rate of 96% — which we consider our most meaningful statistic.
We remain a small company by design. Every itinerary is reviewed by a senior curator who has personally visited the destination. Every hotel recommendation comes from a team member who has stayed there. Every restaurant on our lists has been eaten at, assessed, and re-assessed within the last six months.
